On this episode of PE Value Drivers, I spoke with Bob Renner, a Senior Operating Partner at Inverness Graham.
Bob joined Inverness Graham in 2022 after a robust career which included working as an entrepreneur and an investment banker. As a partner at AGC Partners, a leading technology focused Investment Bank, Bob specialized in SaaS Software, Technology Infrastructure and HCIT markets. As the former CEO & President of Liaison Technologies, a company that he founded and grew to become a leading data management and integration solutions provider with over 500 employees worldwide, Bob completed and fully integrated 11 buy-side transactions and in 2018, he guided the company to its successful $310 million exit to Canada’s largest software company, OpenText.
In his role as Senior Operating Partner, Bob’s responsibilities include Board and advisory participation with various portfolio companies and assessing investment opportunities in specific markets aligned with his background and experience.

Bob Renner's Entrepreneurial Journey and Investment Strategy
Bob shared his extensive experience, which includes working as an entrepreneur, investment banker, and CEO of a company he founded and led to a successful exit. Bob highlighted Inverness's investment approach, focusing on innovative growth technology companies across various sectors. He also discussed how his diverse background, from being a founder and CEO to an operating partner in private equity, helps him in his current role.
Managing Deals and Unlocking Potential
Bob shared his experience managing deals during the Covid-19 pandemic and how it contributed to his understanding of what works and what doesn't in the business world. He emphasized the value he brings as an operating partner, such as providing a sounding board for CEOs and facilitating the unlocking of unrealized company potential. Bob also highlighted the value of bringing in external expertise and the welcoming culture at Inverness Graham.
Third-Party Collaboration Strategy
Bob talked about the company's strategy of leveraging third parties for operations and specific areas where there is a potential return on investment. He emphasized the company's willingness to work with external experts. Bob emphasized the importance of the consultant's ability to understand the bigger picture of the project and provide an actionable strategy.
